What kind of device is a dimmer?

By using a dimmer, you can save on your energy costs. You save 50% of the dimmed power. Example: When you dim a bulb of 100 watts to 60 watts, you save 20 watts (50% of 40 watts).


What is a tronic dimmer?
                                               
Tronic dimmers (electronic dimmers) are suitable for electronic transformers, so for 12 volt lamps such as G4, G6.35, MR16, MR11,dimmable LED and all 230 volt lamps.


12 volt dimmers are always placed before the transformer.

What is a (regular) bulb dimmer?
An incandescent lamp dimmer can dim all lights that operate on 230 volts (i.e.: GU10, E14, E27, R7S, G9).


What is a floor dimmer?
A floor dimmer is placed between the lamp and the plug and is designed for floor lamps only.



What is a dim transformer?
A dim transformer is a dimmer and a transformer in one.



What does "dimming" mean?
There is a minimum and a maximum load (watts) on a dimmer. A lamp or group of lamps with a total wattage between the minimum and maximum load are to be dimmed without any problems.

i.e.: A dimmer has a range of 40W to 300W. A 25W lamp will blink or may not burn at all.


Can a 230V halogen lamp be dimmed?
A 230V halogen bulb can be dimmed with any dimmer.


Can a 12V halogen lamp be dimmed?
A 12V halogen lamp can be dimmed with a tronic dimmer.


Can an energy saving lamp be dimmed?
Only dimmable energy saving lamps can be dimmed. This is explicitly mentioned on the packaging.


Can a LED lamp be dimmed?
Only dimmable LED lamps can be dimmed. This is explicitly mentioned on the packaging.


Can incandescent lamps be dimmed?
An incandescent light bulb can be dimmed with any dimmer.
